Project Details
Constructed in 1900 to house the School of Dentistry, the former University of Louisville School of Dentistry building at Brook and Broadway was renovated into new housing units for medical interns with modern day amenities. This 4-story structure's facade, of brick and stone, was restored to its original construction, including exposing the original interior corridor, decorative columns, and beam. A new internal stair tower as well as a combo exterior elevator/ stair tower was constructed with a connector to meet current code. The project developer was awarded the 2022 Founders Award.
Banta CMC is a trusted advisor of the developer and was tasked to be the Construction Owner's Representative on the project. Responsibilities included RFPs for: General Contractor, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing engineering services. Development of a project specific RFP that encompasses the history as well as the goals and objectives of the project. Development of the project's construction budget was estimated at 50% documents and was within 1% of the bids received. The spread between the general contractor bids received was less than 3%, top to bottom.
