Decades of
Industry Leadership

Since 1970, the Banta name has been synonymous with leadership in the construction industry. Richard Banta Jr. has dedicated his entire life to the construction industry, both in the field and managing projects of all sizes. As a construction advisor and consultant with over 30 years of experience and a career portfolio exceeding $1.8 billion in construction projects, Richard is a seasoned expert in construction management and consulting. Richard is not someone who pads his resume with large projects that involved little more than note taking and minimal responsibility. His work shows decades of tangible experience and responsibility.

Through his experience and leadership, at Banta CMC, he and his teams have overseen over 500 projects, spanning millions of square feet in sectors including Division I Athletics, post-secondary institutions, healthcare, mixed-use developments, distilleries, and corporate facilities. Richard is particularly recognized for his leadership in landmark projects, including University of Louisville Cardinal Stadium Expansion, Frazier Rehab & Neuroscience Center, Log Still Distillery, and YUM! Brands Corporate Headquarters.

Richard's range of expertise extends to project planning, detailed budget cost opinions, quality assurance, and construction risk mitigation. As an independent advisor, he consistently delivers cost-efficient solutions, enhances impeccable communication between stakeholders, and ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. His certifications include OSHA 10-Hour and American Society of Healthcare Engineers Certification. He is also affiliated with the American Institute of Constructors and the Construction Owners Association.

Banta is an established authority throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana, and is a partner who understands every aspect of the built environment and how to align it with organizational goals.

1970

Richard Banta Sr. establishes R.B. Banta Co., a small general contracting business with an emphasis on quality and customer service. In 1988, R.B. Banta Co. was established as a major general contractor in Louisville.

1985

Richard Banta Jr. begins his own construction career working his way through the ranks of the industry from laborer, carpenter, superintendent, and project management. Over the next 10 to 15 years, Richard became senior project manager and estimator for R.B. Banta Co., Inc.

2001

Richard Banta Jr. joins the 2nd largest healthcare Program Manager in the country as the senior project manager for one of Louisville’s largest healthcare providers.

2005

Richard Banta Jr. joins one of Louisville’s largest and successful general contractors, Abel Construction Co., tasked with being the catalyst for their CM (Construction Management) Division. Richard establishes the post secondary, Division I athletics, and healthcare markets.

2014

Richard Banta Jr. co-founds ERDCO Properties, LLC. which acquires commercial and industrial real estate for investment purposes to include the strengthening of existing tenants and their core business.

2016

Richard Banta Jr founded Banta CMC, LLC. on the principle of owners needing true owner representation for their construction projects. In founding Banta CMC, Richard drew on his many years of experience, responsibility, and accountability.

2017

The first multi-million dollar client. Banta CMC is hired by Restaurant Supply Chain Solutions to manage their corporate expansion and subsequent renovations which continue to this day.

2020

Underhill Associates engage the services of Banta CMC to provide pre-construction and management services of SWISS Village, Myers Hall, The Patterson, and other miscellaneous projects.

2021-22

Wally Dant, paying tribute to his family, starts Log Still Distillery and engages  Banta CMC to assist with the construction and development of his dream, including eight projects over 130 acres. The Trail Hotel engages Banta CMC on their historical tax credit hotel project in Bardstown, KY, commencing one of several hospitality projects.

2025

Banta CMC’s services have been trusted by The Presbyterian Foundation, Slow Pass Distillery, and Bakery Square to see their visions to completion. 2025 marks ten years working with YUM! Brands and six years working with America Place.

It might make sense for our project to discuss the services of an Owner’s Representative. How do you define your services?

My services are categorized into three areas: the initiation phase (or pre-construction and design), project construction phase, and the close out phase (or post-construction).

What is your experience in the Construction Industry?

The owner needs an Owner’s Representative with “in the trenches” experience. That means working construction knowledge, contracting methodology experience, negotiating skills, and, most importantly, the leadership and discipline to assist in executing the goals and objectives of the project and its stakeholders. Banta CMC, LLC. has that experience. I have managed nearly $2 billion in construction projects over my career—with the emphasis on “managed”. I pride myself on my tangible experience, not a suggestive resume of large projects with minimal responsibility and note taking. My experience comes from the first hand knowledge of actually being responsible and accountable for completing building projects in a timely manner while maintaining fiscal responsibility. Most importantly, I understand that everything is a team effort.

How would you define your fee vs project costs vs your value?

My fee services are defined specifically to each client’s respective project. No two projects are the same. A percentage of cost is not a definitive avenue for establishing a fee structure; although it may be used as a marker. Each client’s project is unique. I tailor 100% of my proposals to the project and the specific needs of the owner(s). I have been fortunate to have always saved 100% of my fee, and more often than not, substantially more.

What is your role as an Owner’s Representative on our project?

My primary objective is to be your advocate and represent your best interests. I help to establish goals and objectives, ensure their successful execution, and work to keep all team members accountable. I provide pre-construction services, construction consulting, and consultant selection. I serve as your representation in all areas of the project, providing oversight of the construction manager or general contractor, and managing the many facets of completing the overall project.

What is your business philosophy and line of communication?

Simply stated—I aim to be seamless, precise, direct, and honest. I pride myself on following two philosophical principles: do exactly what you have committed to and nothing short of that, and communicate effectively and often.
